The former Indian batsmen was admitted to a hospital in Gurugram due to multiple organ failures. Chauhan was put on the ventilator but was unable to fight off the illness after a battle that lasted nearly two days.
The news of his death was announced by his brother Pushpendra Chauhan. “My elder brother Shri Chetan Chauhan has left us today after fighting a good battle. I sincerely thank everyone who had prayed for his recovery. His son Vinayak will be reaching anytime and we will then perform last rites,” said Pushpendra
Cricketers from all over the world paid tribute to a wonderful batsmen who played 40 Tests for India scoring 2084 runs and who was Sunil Gavaskar’s longest serving opening partner. Former Indian batsmen, Gautam Gambhir spoke highly of Chauhans contribution not only in the world of cricket but also in the political arena as as the UP Cabinet Minister.
Current Indian captain, Virat Kohli took to twitter to pay his respects to Chauhan and tweeted “Shocked to hear about the passing of Shri. Chetan Chauhan ji. May his soul rest in peace and my thoughts and prayers are with his family,”.
