Dr. Patel, a Santa Cruz resident and mother of two had the following to say ”Its a big win for us and I thank luck, God and my family. We got to know about the win on July 28, which also was my husband’s birthday.”.

Dr Patel also became the first resident from Mumbai to win such an enormous amount. The winnings have allowed the doctor to buy their dream home in Bandra, fund the education of her two sons and also travel to her favourite destinations. Dr. Patel also donated a portion of her winnings to charity.

Dr Patel further went onto explain that while her husband played the lottery regularly, she herself only developed a fascination for her when one of her patients won a prize. She bought the ticket in 2007 and had to wait another 14 months for when the jackpot draw was announced on July 26, 2008.

Talking to UNI, Rajesh Bhasin, Director, Playwin said, ”99 per cent of us believe in luck and numbers. Though we do not endorse spending all of one’s money in the game or anything, we encourage people, especially the aspiring middle class to take to the game. With a ticket prize of Rs 10, we believe its worth it.” The Playwin Sikkim Super Lotto Jackpot uses a computerised systems for weekly draws on Thursday (prize money of Rs 3.36 crore) and Saturday (prize money of Rs 2 crore).
