Online cricket betting has made a triumphant return in Tamil Nadu after being banned just a few months ago.
Online cricket betting in Tamil Nadu was made illegal in February 2021. This was put into effect after the government modified the Tamil Nadu Gaming Act of 1930 and prohibited its residents from engaging in any form of online cricket betting. This mean that residents were unable to create accounts on sites such as 10Cric and Betway.
They were allowed to play the lottery and could participate in both national and international online lotteries such as Mega Millions and U.S PowerBall. A group of cricket betting sites were not particuarly pleased by this latest development and decided to rally against it. A petition was filed by the operators in the Madras Court in July where it was struck down by a division of the high court. This meant that not only were the residents of Tamil Nadu allowed once again to place bets on cricket but they could also enjoy online casino games such as teen patti, rummy and roulette!
With the t20 World Cup just around the corner, this is great news as residents can once again indulge in cricket betting.
