The police pounced on 4 persons involved in an online cricket betting racket in Kanpur district.
It seems that police were hot on the heels of people involved in illegal online cricket betting. This time the crime branch arrested four bookies from the Shyam Nagar area in Chakeri on Thursday evening. From the raid, they were able to recover over Rs 7 lakh in cash, seven mobile handsets , a ledger register and several documents.
As per the police, the gang was involved in accepting bets on the T20 match between Sri Lanka and India that was being played in Premadasa stadium on Thursday.
DCP Crime Salman Taj Patil received a tip off that a group men were accepting bets for the match. These men included Sandeep Kanaujia of New Labour Colony, Harshit Agarwal of Rail Bazar, Ankit Asthana of Babupurwa and Sumit Anand of Shyam Nagar.
Sumit Anand’s house was raided by a team led by sub-inspectors Vijay Darshan Sharma and Sunit Sharma of Crime branch.
“We have recovered cash over Rs 7 lakh, seven mobile phones, a ledger register and other documents from the spot. The arrested persons used to send online links on the Internet to play ‘satta’,” the DCP said.
