We are living in strange times where the biggest cricket tournament in the world is being played in empty stadiums. Instead of the roar of the crowds we are instead greeted by fake ‘cheers’ of the audience. If you think that is bad, the cricketers have it worse as demonstrated in the 4th Oct match between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Delhi Capitals (DC)

It was the third over of an already exciting match with Saini bowling to Prithvi Shaw. Shaw played a sublime cover drive that was fielded by King Kohli at extra cover. After fielding the ball, Kohli then proceeded to apply saliva to ball, a practice that was a norm in pre COVID days. Cricketers would apply saliva to shine the ball, a practice that would help fast bowlers swing the ball. However, post COVID-19 things are different and cricketers have been prohibited from applying saliva to avoid spread of infection.

Kohli was quick to demonstrate his awareness regarding the matter and immediately held his hands up as to apologise for his actions. Fans and cricketers alike were quick to react to this and even batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar took to twitter.

RCB captain is not the first to break the protocol as just last week Robin Uthappa (Rajasthan Royals) did the same when bowling against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in their IPL match.
