It seems that cricket betting was once again rife during IPL 2020 as former Ranji player Robin Morris was arrested for allegedly running a betting racket.
Former Ranji player Robin Morris was arrested by Versova police for allegedly running a cricket betting racket during this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL). Morris was not alone and two other accused Rohit Babu Bhimanna and Dhirendra Kulkarni were also arrested in the case.
The police were informed of the betting racket that was taking place at Morris’ flat Yari Road, Andheri (West). The trio were caught red handed accepting bets during an IPL match between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). The police confiscated several gadgets including mobile phones, tablets and cash worth Rs 9,000 from the premises.
The trio were booked under sections 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 465 (punishment for forgery), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), 471 (using as genuine a forged), and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sections 4 and 5 (A) of the Gambling Act.
The metropolitan magistrate court in Andheri ordered the trio to remain in police custody till Monday.
